Game of Thrones: HBO confirms season 8 will be last

HBO has just answered a huge lingering question about Game of Thrones.

EW asked the network’s new programming president Casey Bloys if he plans to go along with showrunners’ David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ oft-stated desire to end their fantasy hit with season 8.

Bloys said yes, that is the current plan – the first time somebody at HBO has confirmed this.

“Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do,” Bloys said at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills on Saturday. “Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more. I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show.”

The showrunners have also planned for the eighth season to consist of merely six episodes. On that front, however, Bloys said the exact number of season eight episodes is not yet final.

We then asked if the team is considering a Thrones spin-off to continue the valuable franchise. Thrones is one of TV’s most watched shows with 25 million total viewers this year across all platforms.

“We’ve talked about it,” he said. “It’s something I’m not opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively. I’m not sure that [Benioff and Weiss] could really wrap their heads around it when they’re just about to start production [on season 7]. It’s a pretty intense production, they’re about to start production soon. I’m open to it. The guys weren’t opposed to it, but there’s no concrete plans for it at this point.”

Also, with the production delay of season seven – which will debut its seven episodes next summer – the executive confirmed the plan will take Thrones out of the running for the Emmys next year. Thrones received 23 prime-time 2016 Emmy nominations, more than any other show, but requires a heavy amount of winter location shooting for the next season (locations include a production unit filming in Iceland).

Still, Bloys pointed out, “Even if we took Thrones Emmys away this year, we’d still have more than anyone else.”

The executive was also asked about the fate of True Detective, and had this to say.

New Project Movie for Hannah Murray

Kathryn Bigelow Eyes ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Hannah Murray for Detroit Crime Drama (Exclusive)

he director of “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty” is re-teaming with Mark Boal and Megan Ellison
English actress Hannah Murray, who plays Gilly on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” is in talks for a key role in Kathryn Bigelow‘s untitled true crime drama set amid the Detroit riots, TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Bigelow is directing from a script by fellow Oscar winner Mark Boal, whose script explores systemic racism in urban Detroit. The duo behind “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty” will also produce with Megan Ellison and Matthew Budman of Annapurna Pictures, which is financing the project.

Although specific plot details, as well as Murray’s character, are being kept under wraps, the film is set against the backdrop of Detroit’s devastating riots that took place over five haunting summer days in 1967.

Production is expected to start this summer and the film is targeting a 2017 release in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the riots.

Murray broke out playing Cassie Ainsworth on the hit British TV series “Skins” before joining “Game of Thrones.” Her feature credits include Tim Burton‘s “Dark Shadows,” Stuart Murdoch’s musical “God Help the Girl” and the indie movie “Bridgend,” which recently made waves at Tribeca. She’s represented by UTA, Management 360 and London-based agency Troika.

Annapurna is coming off Richard Linklater‘s charming college comedy “Everybody Wants Some!!” and its upcoming films include Todd Solondz’s “Wiener-Dog,” Ana Lily Amirpour‘s “The Bad Batch,” Mike Mills’ “20th Century Women” and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s raunchy animated movie “Sausage Party.”

Hannah In El Elegido

Diario de Navarra reports the following information about Hannah’s new movie “El Elegido”.

Alfonso Herrera and Hannah Murray, Gilly in “Game of Thrones” – roll these days in Barcelona “Chosen,” a film directed by Antonio Chavarrías addressing the loving relationship between the murderer of Leon Trotsky, Ramon Mercader, and Secretary the Bolshevik leader, Silvia Ageloff.

The film centers “at the time that the OGPU, the secret police of Russia, captured the young Communist Ramon Mercader, during the Spanish Civil War, to commission the assassination” and above all “in the period that happens in Mexico , where he approaches Leon Trotsky, there asylum through Ageloff Silvia, her lover and a secretary of the Soviet revolutionary, he meets in Paris “Chavarrías explained in a break from filming.

In Barcelona, the Milan Bar has become a Parisian bar in which Ramon Mercader (Alfonso Herrera) dances with the shy Silvia Ageloff (Hannah Murray) to boogie woogie beat of a New Yorker.

Chavarrías advances that attempts to reconstruct the relationship between Merchant and Ageloff, who unknowingly became involved in the mission entrusted to the Spanish agent.

“She did not give any interviews after the death of Trotsky, disappeared completely from the map, I think what happened sank,” says the Catalan director and screenwriter.

“I tried to write the script documentándome from those who lived in the first person Chavarrías- continues rummaging through the material time, as the memories of the brother of Ramon Mercader, who wrote articles bodyguards, and spoke to Trotsky’s grandson, Esteban Volkov “.

According Chavarrías, one of the keys to this story is that Ramon Mercader as a spy represented another character, the Belgian Jacques Mornard wealthy because they could not find it was Spanish and pretended another identity.

“Chosen” is led by Mexican Alfonso Herrera, who shot to fame with the telenovela “Rebelde”, British Hannah Murray, who played Cassie Ainsworth in “Skins” and currently plays Gilly in “Game of Thrones” along with Henry Goodman (Leon Trotsky), Julian Sands (Kotov), Elvira Minguez (Caridad Mercader, mother of the protagonist) and Roger Casamajor (Carles Vidal), among others.

Hannah Murray admits that, before participating in the film, did not know the story of Ramon Mercader and “read the script was very educational, fascinated ate it.”

“Then I read documented and Trotsky, and everything has been a very interesting experience,” says the British actress, who admits he has drawn the image of the Russian revolutionary.

“. I understood why he is considered a hero If I had come to rule had been fouled, but it was only a theoretical and has very inspiring texts,” said Murray, adding: “in his will is a precious fragment in looking for the window and talk about what you see, and how important it is to preserve it. It goes beyond politics and communism. ”

Regarding his role in “Game of Thrones” Hannah Murray combines it with other projects, while recognizing that it is selective in the roles he chooses, “It is the advantage of shooting with many characters, you do not constantly need; arena in Belfast one week back home two … I do not stop me from doing other things, “says the actress.

For its part, the Mexican actor Alfonso Herrera shown comfortable in their work to uncover the identity of Ramon Mercader, “it is not known how her life in the trenches, in the Spanish Civil War, how he traveled to Russia to be trained by the USSR and what previously happened to the murder, “says Herrera, who says that this story” is to clarify who was Ramon Mercader “.

Herrera recognizes that Mexico will be provided documented about his character, although “the great work of research did Chavarrías”.
Chavarrías says the title of the film, “The Chosen”, symbolizes the time when he was commissioned to Mercader the murder of Trotsky: “It was like a prize, you’re the man who will end the great betrayer, who is endangering the revolution, “says the director.
The film was shot mostly in Mexico and Barcelona have been filmed the last scenes of this Spanish-Mexican production to be released in the spring of 2016.
